This morning I sat for a bit with my jade plant and did a partial blind contour drawing with my pen. I was holding that pen so tight. I noticed and stopped. I felt the need to “get it right” which is why it became a partial blind contour. That and I got to the edge of the paper and had to look where to start again.
It was a good exercise in just showing up and doing it. I will try not to get attached to the outcome of these daily works. That’s not easy. I think part of my fear with this whole project is that at the end of it I will not have improved at all. So it’s imperative to enjoy the process.
So if you are embarking on some sort of daily creative work this year go check out Crystal Moody and her 2014 project. She is now onto a new one for 2015. Doing a painting a day. Wow! Impressive. She offers lots of advice and encouragement. We need it. I need it. 🙂
My daughter made me a birthday card. Made me laugh. The sweetest. They made me breakfast in bed and gave me presents. There was a Thai lunch out and delicious dark chocolate birthday cake. It was a great day. 🙂
Our second assignment in Full Circle. Little me. About three. We had to find an early photo, a middle of the road one and a current one and then write about it. It was a great exercise. All of the girls before are in there. I found I held those early ones closely. You realize where you were and where you are now. It all matters and makes you who you are.
I started painting flowers. During these days of winter I need color and paint and yarn. It keeps me happy and I believe that helps keep up my immunity. I began a new exercise routine and added kefir to my diet. Feeling very interested in the whole mind/body connection.
The tea pot. I know you can only see a bit but it is beautiful. From England. It was a birthday gift from mom and I have been using it every day. The purple yarn is for fingerless mitts. Two at at time. Well, I am trying. Between Knit Lab in the Round and this book I think I can do it. 🙂
I have begun painting stripes. Regularly. Well, a week or so now. Playing with color. Ah, bliss. Where and when I will stop I am not sure.
Knitting on dpn’s. This is so big to me. My friend Maegan created patterns for jar cozies. I am gifting one tomorrow. The fact that I could do it was/is amazing to me. It wasn’t that long ago that I thought I would never be able to knit and now I am knitting things using multiple needles. Amazing. I signed up for Knit Lab in the Round on Craftsy and it is very helpful. Soon I will try a hat and fingerless mitts.
I also signed up for Write Into the Heart of Your Story which starts in two days. A two week course and I am so excited and nervous. It is something I have wanted to explore for some time so this seemed like a great way to dip my toes in.
And with the holidays quickly approaching I have begun holiday crafting and shopping. My intention is to have a low stress season. What is happening where you are? Tell me I would love to know. xo
I have this major urge to paint in calm, soothing colors. These are feeling too harsh today. Oh, and check out my dream job!
I have had the best time working on my inspiration wall. It is so much fun and I feel like I want to cover the whole wall in images!
I love the Mati Rose image. Show the world your magic.
I think I may have to add these pillows from Anthropologie. Love the dots.
Wishing you a happy weekend.
I have been giving myself two hours of painting time in the afternoon. That may not seem like much to some but to me that is tons. Now all I want to do is paint!
I bought glazing liquid and matte gel and yesterday I experimented with them in landscapes and the girl below who is in progress. I will show the landscapes soon.
Today I am absorbing all the beautiful color from this artist in this book. I am looking forward to watching this and digging into this book. What are you up to for the weekend?
P.S. Next week I am back with a post on more Art that I Heart!
