Painting Today…Day 2

Today is rainy and totally grey! Forgive the bad pics. Bleck! The kids are home from school and are pretending I am the teacher. So funny!

So I was up early and I started the top piece on gessobord based on the cover of Country Living which you can semi see in the second photo. I had written on that cover SOOTHING because that is how it felt to me. The upper portion of the piece is a real pale grey blue.  I will see where it goes, you may see it in a different place soon.

The other piece I began this afternoon while the kids were watching a movie. I had a pic from a magazine with a really cool purple black leaved plant and right now I have no idea what it is. But I loved the color mix and shapes. Of course this one has a long way to go.

I have to tell you that I was in a funk earlier but after I put in some time with the second piece I felt so much better and I just wanted to keep going. My kids wanted to have “art class” though and I had to set them up for painting and drawing.

My son says this is me shaking my head! LOL! Now I have to run as I hear them screaming from the other room. Did you paint today?

Painting Today…Day 1

This is day 1 of painting today. I am committed to putting brush to surface every day this month, without the pressure of completing it in a day. I hope you decide to jump in. Do it for a week or two.

Today I felt a bit off when starting this project. I didn’t have a specific thing in mind that I wanted to paint, I felt a bit rushed and that I wasn’t in the flow.

I was not happy with the top results. I did like the colors a lot and even the texture. I then had to leave and when I came back I decided I am going to paint color. So I did. I was happy painting that one. I don’t consider this a waste of time. Any time spent with paint and brush is useful.

I painted these on paper, unprimed. I didn’t love that. So I think tomorrow I am going to work on gessoboard or canvas or at least a paper with gesso on it.

I keep feeling drawn to faces/people/plants/patterns so this is what may show up for me this month.

If you painted today leave a comment. I would love to see!

I have been painting….

and I don’t want to stop!! It is crazy how the urge to paint color just comes over me and then everywhere I look I see interesting color combos. These are in various stages.

I ran across this pretty blog, can’t remember how, but she is doing a painting a day right now! I am going to start doing that on May 1 until the end of the month. If you are interested in doing the same leave a comment and let me know.

Living with Ease

I should preface this post to say when I began it, there was no ease…site running slow….so I went for a walk.

“Quality easy breathes life. Quality easy creates a sense of expansion.”-Danielle Laporte

Many, many times I have waited in anticipation. Will they call? Will I get the acceptance letter? Will I hear “you got the job!”.

There was always an attachment to the outcome. It if it was Yahoo! or if it wasn’t as hoped for, well then an upset.

Just recently I have been o.k. with the rejection, with something not turning out as hoped for or expected.

It has taken 39 years to get here. I watched this movie again and was reminded of how you can’t force things.

How many of us live by striving, trying to force something that just wasn’t meant to be?
I am done with striving. Which by definition means:

  1. Make great efforts to achieve or obtain something.
  2. Struggle or fight vigorously.

It is so much easier to live from a place of ease.
Where you aren’t forcing something into being. Where you are allowing and going with the flow. Accepting what is and loving it. It doesn’t mean you don’t try or you don’t reach but you pay attention to what feels right, you are guided by your feelings. It is about quality easy. Things will flow then you won’t be in a place of struggle or frustration.

It is more loving to you and more loving to others. You feel better. So if you don’t get the call or the letter or whatever it is be o.k. with it. It wasn’t meant to be, at least not for now and perhaps what is meant to be will be infinitely better.

Beauty

we need beauty, we crave beauty, we are wired for beauty
this is our attraction to that handsome chiseled face, a fiery sunset, a fresh cut bouquet of flowers, words on page
my little girl is so attuned to beauty. if you suggest a non colorful or patterned shirt she will protest “no mama, it isn’t beautiful!”
we need to surround ourselves with it
actions, people, words, objects
i think we need this now more then ever
when i spoke of dreamsbeauty is the connecting link
i think that as an artist that is our gift, to bring beauty, to share beauty in all it’s forms
i want to be in the beauty business

here are some beautiful links for you today..
*amy shares this really beautiful thing to do with your love. such a great idea

Dreamer

Some days I have know idea how to write a blog post. Will I say too much? Not enough? Sometimes I have so much to say with no real formal way I want to say it. Things I want you to know, things I want to share, things I hope will help you, things that help me just by writing them.

When I was back at F.I.T. I took an American Lit class, my teacher tried to coax me into switching my major because she liked the way I wrote. I actually enjoyed writing. Prior to that I tried to get into a creative writing class. No luck. I couldn’t understand what the Am. Lit professor even liked. I still know that I don’t craft words well but I enjoy reading words that others craft beautifully.

So this is turning into a rambling of sorts. Sorry about that. Maybe I should switch to a list-

-was hit by another car this a.m., just a dent, no one hurt, but i realize i am not good in those situations, they throw me off
-going to go make this soon, was planning to anyway
-wondering about blogs…. what makes people read the ones they do? great photos, connection, the way they write, inspiration would love to hear why you read what you do? oh, and if you have a blog pleeeeeeaaaassseee add a subscribe via email link, it is so much easier for the reader

-i titled this post dreamer so let’s talk dreams…

i have so many

*like to take pictures like her, with a camera like her, i am really enjoying her blog, so pretty and comfy, makes me want to redo this one, which i started to so please excuse the look

*i want to have/start a local studio space where you can go and everyone knows your name, and you can draw or paint or crochet or knit or embroider or just hang around and laugh, eat some cupcakes or drink tea, it would have to be BEAUTIFUL and there would be a whole wall of inspiration, lots of tables, one with collage stuff, one with drawing tools and paper, one with paint and brushes, another with yarn and embroidery, it would be big and bright and ideally it would be free for all (it is a dream remember?), there would be inspiring women who would give talks and workshops, lovely music, plants, lots of books of course, we would have art shows, every community needs something like this, it would help so many… do you have one?

*i want to, well i have, create surface designs and print them on fabric, cards, plates, etc….

*i want to travel

*to take workshops

*to write a book

*to paint and have an art show

*to create a book on color

that probably isn’t it but it is alot i would love to hear some of yours?
